40% of Bay Area residents believe they can become wealthy within a decade

According to the survey, Bay Area residents believe it takes an average $4.0 million in personal net worth to be considered “wealthy” in their area. That’s more than 40 times the actual median net worth of U.S. households.

More than half of Bay Area residents are optimistic that they will be wealthy at some point in their lives, and two in five believe they will achieve that goal within a decade. More than 10 percent say they already consider themselves wealthy, although they believe they achieved wealth at almost $1.2 million in net worth.
