The Hedonistic Imperative
A branch of trans-humanism/life extension focused on the elimination of pain/suffering, and the maximization of happiness/pleasure.
Some of their ideas include:
- "Dopaminergic Overdrive" vs. opiate style drugs. They dispute the stereotype of lazy druggies high on pleasure drugs. The claim in their vision of the future, people will be highly focused and motivated on a larger range of activities than current humans.
- Re-writing human genetics to be more euphoric vs. depressive. Basically making it genetically impossible for people to not be euphoric.
- Instead of highs and lows, they envision "gradients of bliss". Basically different levels of happiness.
Original book was published in 1995. They dislike Brave New World and have a site devoted to arguing against it: https://www.huxley.net/index.html
