Editor of JAMA resigns after accusation of racism
Dr. Bauchner (white, editor of JAMA) "claimed that socioeconomic factors, not structural racism, held back communities of color". Someone (social media intern?) tweeted that no physician can be racist in a link to the podcast. To atone for his sins, Dr. Bauchner is stepping down. Dr. Safo (black woman) started a petition for his resignation.
He apologized for his sins, including the racist tweet that the social media manager posted. Quoting Dr. Bauchner:
I remain profoundly disappointed in myself for the lapses that led to the publishing of the tweet and podcast. Although I did not write or even see the tweet, or create the podcast, as editor in chief, I am ultimately responsible for them.
