Mt View school district report on choice schools and equity

This report was prepared by a consultant hired to review "equitable access to choice schools." Some notable parts:

• Endorses the use of "weight lotteries" which give preferential access to poor families
• Asians lumped together with white families, do not count towards "diversity." This likely lumps Indians with East Asia
• Choice schools will, in general, increase inequity
• Transportation prevents poor families from applying to choice schools
• Lack of awareness prevents poor families from applying to choice schools
• Recommends adding "diversity" to mission statements of choice schools
• Recommends more outreach efforts to recruit poor families

A choice school is defined as charter, magnet, or any non-neighborhood school
